The Ready By 6 Council partnered with Morristown Parks and Recreation to create a Born Learning Trail at Fred Miller Park.

Fred Miller Park "Born Learning Trail"

Born Learning Trail

The Born Learning Trail is a product of United Way Worldwide developed to advance early childhood learning strategies. A series of 10 interactive signs offers fun and active learning activities for young children and their families in both English and Spanish.

Simply walk the Fred Miller’s Park Born Learning Trail, stop at each sign, and follow the directions! The directions are specific enough to give you an idea of how to tailor the activity to your child’s developmental level. From the moment your child is born, your child’s brain is developing—children are, literally, born learning! Throughout your child’s life, each positive experience that engages their brain strengthens it.

Your child’s brain needs to develop several different types of skills to be strong and to succeed in life: emotion, language, memory, visual, behavioral control, and motor skills. The activities in the Born Learning Trail are designed to engage and develop these skills. The more your child works to develop these skills when they’re younger, the be better prepared they will be for learning in school!

Your involvement is important! While independent play is good for children, creative interaction with a caregiver helps a child’s brain develop even better! Asking your child questions, repeating their actions, and following directions provided for the caregiver along the Born Learning Trail will help strengthen the development of your child’s brain.

While you are helping your child learn and grow, you also experience the joy of seeing your child’s sense of creativity and exploration blossom.
