Family Resource Center

The Ready by 6 Council Family Resource Center has been created to enhance supportive systems, programs and policies, and environments that nurture children and families to reach their full potential. The Center is located at Morristown Hamblen Central Services and is staffed by Morristown Hamblen Central Services, a Strong Accountable Care Community Family Partner and a Ready by 6 Council Support Assistant.

The Pillars of the Family Resource Center

Financial Management – to provide resources, tools, referrals, and counseling for families to improve skills in budgeting, saving, improving credit scores, paying off debt and building a strong foundation for financial security.

Housing – to provide resources, tools, referrals, and counseling for families to have safe and affordable housing options, promote housing equity, promote home ownership when possible, conduct fair housing analysis, and advocate for anti-oppressive housing practices.

Employment -to provide resources, tools, referrals, and counseling for families to promote living wage employment, job readiness skills, resume writing, job applications, job searches, , advance educational opportunities to enhance employability, conduct research on employment opportunities to identify gaps within the community and advocate for equitable employment opportunities for different ability levels.

Education – to provide resources, tools, referrals, and counseling to help parents understand their role as the child’s first teacher, to help parents understand and navigate the school system policies and to advocate for equitable access to education for all children and adults.

Parenting and Family Success – to provide resources, tools, referrals, and counseling to families regarding trauma informed care (ACEs), strengthening protective factors for children/families, promoting, modeling and teaching enhanced parental skills,conduct assessments of child care resources and gaps in services within the community, advocate for early learning opportunities.

Physical, Mental and Behavioral Health – to provide resources, tools, referrals, and counselingto assess and promote physical safety within the home and the community, improve food security and nutrition, assess domestic violence, promote healthcare and access to primary holistic care including physical, mental, behavioral, dental and vision, assist with appointments and maintenance of appointments schedules.

Transportation-to provide resources, tools, referrals, and counseling for families regarding transportation needs, assessing current transportation status, promote car seat safety, advocate for improved public transportation.

Social Capital Building- to provide resources, tools, referrals and counseling for families regarding community involvement, volunteer opportunities, school activities engagement, encourage voting and community awareness of polies and laws.
